Flaxmere College kids cooking up a storm for the community

📷From preparing a hot lunch for Flaxmere’s Senior Housing residents, helping with the catering for Age Concerns birthday 25th birthday, and cooking up a hangi storm for Te Wiki o te reo Māori, Flaxmere College students have been delighting the community with their fantastic cooking skills.

One of the biggest challenges was preparing a feast for Māori Language Week for 300 students and staff. On the menu were boil up, creamed paua and Maori bread (takakau), followed by sponge pudding.

It was not just about the food; the students were also brushing up on their kitchen tikanga. All of the projects helped the hospitality students learn and practice their catering skills, including portion control when cooking for large numbers, while sharing their love of food with their school and wider communities.
