
Hemi Wong
Hemi Wong has just finished his fourth year at Otago University in Dunedin where he is studying medicine specializing in neuroscience. When he finishes his degree, he hopes to return to Hawke's Bay to practice medicine. Hemi is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Before attending Otago University, Hemi served a two year mission for the Church in the Philippines, where his father was born. Hemi says, his mission was a great learning and growing experie

Pasifika Culture Alive in HB
More than 1500 bright, happy little faces gathered in Flaxmere in September, for the fifth annual Hawke’s Bay Junior Polyfest. For the first time the festival had grown to two days, driven by the increasing number of schools wanting to be involved. Host school Irongate School was a riot of colour and music on September 20 and 21, with groups from 22 schools, averaging 40 a group, taking to the stage to share dance from their cultures. Sharing the love through food
Fresh fruit and vegetables, canned food, bread, school lunches and cleaning and personal products line the shelves of an open-door pantry in Livingstone Rd, ready for those in need to help themselves. Arty fundraiser for massive trip
Sixty-five Flaxmere youngsters are off on the trip of their young lives in December, and they are putting their hearts and souls into making it happen. The pinnacle of their fund-raising efforts will be an Art Auction, being held this month. All 65 Irongate School year 7 and 8 students (Puawai Syndicate) are heading to remote Miru Miru Marae in Marokopa, only accessible by barge, about 150km north of New Plymouth on the west coast.
